Cephalopod reinforcements

Well I do seem to be on a roll with my cephalopod forces.

I managed to finish three more troops and the three unarmed civilians/heavy weapons operators

And as usual I can't start any new force without building at least a few vehicles for it.
I decided to start out with two Tripods and one Handler, sadly I only remembered to take one picture during production so here you go

One tripod is armed with a heatray the other with the dreaded black smoke projector.

And here is the Handler also armed with a heatray

And one more picture of the whole force so far

So whats next,

well I still have to think up some heavy weapons for my unarmed guys to operate and I'm planning some flying cephalopods and then I'd like to do somekind of general or king tipe figure so lots more to come.

Stay tuned,
Stroezie out.

Behold the Alien Tommygun Totin' Terrors from Outerspace!!!

Just a quick post to show you all what my new sculpts look like with some paint on them.

super kawaii no?

Best call in an expert for a size reference

While these are actually meant for a Space 1889 campaing I think I'm going to see about building me a tiny phonebooth for some reason or another 8-)

Cheers,

Sculpting update

Well, I managed to get some more work done on the cephalopods.

First I added the eye, the beak and then I fleshed out the head/brain area.

Then while that was curing I made some guns out of a wire and a toothpick.
Just to be sure everything was completely cured I waited till the next day before adding them to the figures.

Here are a few pictures of the first four finished models, one leader and three troops

I think I'll make three more troops and then finish the last three without weapons to serve as civilian objectives or maybe even controlers for some kind of Battle Los Angles walking heavy weapon kind of thingy that is already prowling around somewhere in the back of my mind

All in all I'm quite happy with how these are turning out, actually I'm pretty stoked to get some paint on them.
I've also been toying around with some ideas for some tripods so you can expect to see a lot more of these guys in the future.

Toodels,
Stroezie.

The Martians are coming!!!

Hya folks,
its been a little quiet here, no exuses, just me having a little existential gaming crisis.
So I've decided to enter the 6mm sculpting competition over at the Angel Barracks forum, it looks like just the ticket to get me out of my gaming and modeling funk.

I don't think I'll make the deadline but we'll see where this goes.

I am going to try to sculpt some cephalopod aliens.
This is what I've got so far:

I made 10 dollies (mainly because I always mix to much green stuff  )
Just simply pushed a clothespin through a magnetic base and into a cork so I have something to hold on to.

Then I covered them in green stuff to form the base and give the details something to hold on to.

Even though I know you are supposed to let them cure before adding anything more I had some green stuff left over (see :P ) so I couldn't resist trying a few things out.

Here's a closer look at what I've got so far, with a hansome colonist for size reference.

I'd like to add a large central eye above the beak and then enlarge the head a little and make it look more like a brain, then I'll add two more tentacles holding some kind of weapon.

That's it for now, hopefully I'll have another update for you soon, stay tuned...

Cheers,
Stroezie.

First Aeroneff.

Just a quick, small post.

I haven't had much time for hobby related stuff lately, work and my 2 little daughters have been keeping me busy.

I did manage to (almost) finish the first of 2 small Aeroneff patrol boats I plan on building, so I thought I would share it with you.

I'll start with some "nekkid" pictures for those who like to guess what parts were used ;-)

Here is a picture of Lt. Rockbottom and two troops inspecting the new ship to give you a sense of scale

But whats that, the paint is not even dry yet and those dastardly Prussians have hijacked the ship...

I still have to make a magnetised deckgun, gatling and nordfeldt gun to put on the ring up front and then I'll have to think of a name for this beauty.

Thats it for now, I hope to have more to show you all soon.
Cheers,
Stroezie.

Space 1889 here I come !!!

While waiting for my order from Iregular miniatures to arrive I started building a few vehicles for my  new Space 1889 adventures.
Now that my order has arrived and I've got some minis to go along with them I thought I'd share them with you.

The english force,
Can't have Victorian scifi without some of Vicky's own now can we?

The pinacle of British engineering, this huge walker is armed with a 4.7 inch naval gun and can carry upto 4 extra troopers who can shoot from the safety of  their firing platforms.

Ze nefarious Germans

The Machienen krieger is a modified GZG Fat boy infantry walker
I removed the optics and gave him a pickelhaube...

rebuilt his machine gun into a gatling gun...

added a boiler and smoke stack...

and replaced his left hand with a drill.

here's a pic of all the VSF figures I have painted so far, should be enough for a few test games as I start hunting for a set of VSF rules I like.

And, as a taste of more things to come, Lt. Rockbottom was kind enough to show us a vehicle captured from yet another colonial power.

Built in the new Minerva factory in Antwerp these wheeled tanks are armed with either a gatling gun or the French made Reffye 85 mm cannon.

So what else can you expect to see in the (hopefully near) future?

Well for the colonial powers I'm looking to start with English, German, Belgian, French and Italians.
Each faction will have a core of: an officer, between 6 to 9 troopers, an artillery piece (gun, gatling or machine gun) and 1 or 2 vehicles. After that they'll get whatever I think would be cool for that particular nation.

For the Martians I bought a bunch of Mahdist and some renaisance sword and buckler and matchlock men to serve as Hill and Canal Martians respectively.

For Venus I havn't bought any indigenous peoples yet, but I have my eye on Microworlds exelent fantasy lizard men and maybe Onslaught Miniatures Avians for parrotmen.

And of course terrain, lots and lots of terrain ideas...         ...but then, knowing me, you knew that already didn't you.

I'm still looking for a good set of VSF rules so if you have any recomendations please fire away in the comments.

Well time to start up the old aether propeller and be of,
cheers,
Stroezie.

Welcome to the jungle...

Well they say september/october is the best time of the year for planting trees, so that's what I've been doing :D
I've finally completed my basic junglecrawl tile set based on the tiles for the old GW game Lost Patrol, although I already have some ideas to go beond that as I'm thinking of using them as the base for some 6mm space 1889 venus.

But now without further ado here is...

The lost patrol( Darkrealm Pax Arcadia jungle troops)

Their ride out of here( Darkrealm Pax Arcadia cargo chopper)

But how are they going to get there before being eaten?

Not only are there alien monsters hidden in the jungle, the terrain itself seems to want to stop these poor grunts.

A slippery moss covered boulderfield

A swamp/bog with maybe some quicksand?

Some kind of mushrooms that release choking spores if josteled.

Giant venus flytraps

Here's a pic of all the hazard tiles together, I also added a tile with some removable drillworm nests(Angel Barracks drillworm nests).

And a picture of all the tiles together

Future plans include three or more combined hex tiles, so I can make bigger clearings and maybe even some structures, and some triangular inserts so I can use small groups of tiles as forest terrain on larger boards.

Well, thats it for now.
The next post will probably be about some new boards I'm tying out and how they will be stored.

To close of I'd like to ask you all a quick question.
Lately I've been dipping my toes in some 6mm fantasy and, as stated above, I am looking  to start with some 6mm vsf, both of them skirmish games.
So my question to you is:

Would you be interested to read about these projects here or would you prefer I put them on a different blog?

Cheers,
Stroezie.

All Aboard!!!

Just a quick post to show off my new Angel Barracks Repulsorlift train

Now how cool is that!?!

When I ordered it Michael told me I was the first one to buy one, which actually surprised me since there were a lot of very positive comments when he first annouced he would be releasing a scifi train set.

I think the problem may very well be that people are waiting to see if more options come out before buying it ,while Michael is first waiting to see if it sells or not.

This is sad as there were a number of follow up options, like a passenger car, a freight car and maybe even an armor upgrade that now may never see the light of day as he can't afford to put more time/money into a product that does not sell. (although he has already built a trainstation)

So if you are on the fence about buying this thing, DO IT!

I want my freight car dang'nabbit!
How else am I going to get to play any Firefly style trainrobberies ;-)
